Cultivate the cultivators

BUSINESS SUMMARY

My company aims to commercialize the "aquaculture simulator" developed by Associate Professor Takahashi at the Graduate School of Fisheries Sciences, Hokkaido University. Using "behavior models" and "growth models," we replicate farmed fish in digital space. Growth factors such as feeding rates, population size, and tank size are incorporated to allow quantification of growth and costs. Based on quantified results, we propose improvements for aquaculture management.

THOUGHTS ON FOUNDING

Since my enrollment in the Faculty of Fisheries, I have been taught that the fisheries industry is in decline. Feeling indignant about the decline of the fisheries industry, which I was about to study, I visited the field to investigate the causes of its decline. There, I found that aquaculture was being conducted with production methods that had not changed for decades. Feeling that the reason for continuing these traditional production methods lies in the fisheries industry's value chain, I founded my company to develop innovative technologies capable of transforming the value chain itself.
